Obeying traffic laws is the only way

Jumping traffic lights before they turn or encroaching into crosswalks to stay ahead does not save motorists time and could mean the loss of untold lives.

In the latest case of traffic madness that made headlines in Hanoi, a car plowed into 17 motorbikes and left 20 injured on Wednesday evening.

In nearby camera footage, motorbike drivers can be clearly seen moving before the traffic light turned green at the intersection of Vo Chi Cong and Xuan La streets. Many of them were already stopped several meters into the crosswalk, already nearly protruding into oncoming traffic.

When we drive the streets, there is no way of predicting all the dangerous things that could happen, but the best way to beat the odds of a deadly accident is by simply and strictly following traffic rules. We need to drive in a way that gives space for others when needed so that traffic can flow safely and we can return home in one piece at the end of the day.

Trying to get to our destinations a little bit faster for a few seconds here and there simply is not worth it.
