Vietnamese airports can speed up luggage check procedures by scanning the bags once instead of twice, readers said.

"There is no room at the domestic terminal to retrieve luggage when two to three planes arrive at the same time. It is chaos, people yelling, pushing carts, kids running around!!! I don’t see any short term easy solution unfortunately."

"It depends when you arrive, when I come from Europe, arriving in the morning, it never took me more than 30 minutes to claim my luggage every time and 30 minutes to pass the immigration. However I often see many people becoming impatient but waiting at the wrong luggage belt because they did not care to read the screen properly."

"The airport is just a terrible experience whether you are coming or going, domestic or international. What I don't understand is why there are no efforts to improve the infrastructure. Do we have to wait until Long Thanh airport is built (which is too far away)? Many airports around the world are nearing 100 years old such as Chicago O Hare, JFK, Charles De Gaulle etc but they have been modernized and upgraded and no comparison to Tan Son Nhat, please quit using excuses and upgrade the airport facilities i.e. immigration and systems, baggage claim, more aero bridges etc."

"Baggage clearance at Vietnamese airports takes too long. I once had to wait for two hours after a nearly 20-hour fight with a small child to receive my luggage. Once I got my bags, I had to wait for them to be scanned again at the last customs gate."

"In Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, luggage is scanned only one time, in the baggage carousel. But in Vietnam, your luggage has to be scanned the second time before you leave the airport. It's one of the most annoying things for travelers."
