Binh Duong Province, a key industrial hub in southern Vietnam, plans to build 170,000 social housing units from now through 2030, nearly double the target assigned by the government.

By 2025 it hopes to build 42,000 at a cost of VND25 trillion ($1 billion).

Binh Duong authorities said land lots now owned by public entities and developers who want to participate in the project would be used.

They are looking for experienced developers to undertake the projects.

Binh Duong has a population of over three million, half of them immigrants.

It leads the country in social housing development with 82 projects in 2011-2015 that serving nearly 240,000 people.
