Northern highlands town Moc Chau, home to the world's longest glass bridge, was nominated as Asia's leading nature destination at the 2022 World Travel Awards for the first time.

It will compete with Erawan National Park in Thailand, Fewa Lake in Nepal and Inle Lake in Myanmar for the title.

The winners will be determined by votes from travelers around the world on the World Travel Awards website.

The awards ceremony for Asia will take place on Sep. 7 in Ho Chi Minh City.

Last May, the 632-meter-long Bach Long (white dragon) glass bridge in Moc Chau, a popular tourist spot in northern Son La Province, was crowned with a Guinness World Record for its length.

With this official recognition, the bridge has unseated a 530-meter glass bridge in China's Guangdong Province, which was recognized by Guinness as the world's longest in 2020.

Inaugurated on April 30 this year, the bridge is suspended some 150 meters above a lush green jungle valley.

World Travel Awards was first launched in 1993 to acknowledge excellence in the travel and tourism industry.

It has been heralded the "travel industry's equivalent of the Oscars" by The Wall Street Journal.
