Do paper making experience

A do paper making event is set to take place on Sunday at the Vietnam University of Fine Arts. It aims to celebrate the use of traditional Vietnamese do paper as a medium for artistic expression.

It will seek to promote the time-honored art of handmade paper making, offering attendees a look into the craft, starting with the raw material, tree bark, and culminating in the creation of sheets of paper.

It will be hands-on with participants invited to engage in the traditional paper-making process. A collection of artworks created on do paper will also be showcased.

Do paper is made from tree bark and known for its strength and distinct texture. Long used for art and religious texts, it symbolizes Vietnam's heritage and craftsmanship.

The event is scheduled for Nov. 12 at 9-11:30 a.m. The university is at 42 Yet Kieu Street, Hoan Kiem District. People can register for the event using this link.

'Village in the city' fair

The "Village in the city" fair will be hosted at the North Gate of the Imperial Citadel. It will offer attendees a look at how villages in northern Vietnam looked in the pre-modern era.

The two-day fair will also have over 60 booths and amusement activities such as dart throwing and treasure hunts.

The fair is scheduled to take place on Nov. 11 and 12, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 51B Phan Dinh Phung Street, Hoan Kiem District.

Beeswax - Indigo

"Beeswax - Indigo" organized by the Vietnamese Women's Museum will showcase the beeswax painting technique on fabric used by the Mong and Dao ethnic people, specifically the Dao Tien group in Hoa Binh and Cao Bang Provinces.

The event, part of a broader initiative promoting gender equality and addressing urgent women and children's issues in ethnic minority areas, aims to spread cultural values and customs for the sustainable development of these communities.

The event will feature a "Beeswax - Indigo" photo exhibition, opportunities to try traditional beeswax painting technique on fabric and wear costumes created with the same technique, and a chance for visitors to purchase traditional handmade souvenirs.

Entry is free to the event that will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 11. The museum is at 36 Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Hoan Kiem District.

'The melody of Korean art'

An exhibition on "The melody of Korean art" offers a glimpse into 36 artworks that use a range of different materials. The works, created by seven artists from Gwangju, portray the beauty of Korean scenery and its people.

Gwangju is a renowned cultural hub with a deep-rooted tradition of art. The exhibition organizing committee seeks to introduce the rich art culture and the gifted artists of Gwangju to Vietnamese audiences.

The exhibition will be on from Nov. 3 to 30 at the Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum at 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, Ba Dinh District.

‘Our place in space’

"Our place in space" is a grand representation of the solar system crafted by artist Oliver Jeffers. This experience combines a three-dimensional sculpture trail with an interactive augmented reality application, offering educational opportunities and engaging events.

The trail spans more than eight kilometers through central Hanoi, starting at Thong Nhat Park, winding past the Hoan Kiem Lake and culminating at Hanoi Botanical Garden for a virtual journey covering a distance of five billion kilometers.

In this celestial representation the Sun is 2.35 meters in diameter, Earth is 2.2 centimeters and Pluto only four millimeters.

Visitors are recommended to commence their journey at Thong Nhat Park at 354A Le Duan Street, Dong Da District. The park is opens from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

During weekends Tran Nhan Tong Street and Hoan Kiem Lake are closed to traffic.
