It has become the first Chinese carrier to reopen commercial flights from China to Khanh Hoa since 2020, said Nguyen Thi Le Thanh, director of Khanh Hoa's Department of Tourism, Khanh Hoa news portal reported. The first flight came on September 29.
Several Vietnamese airlines such as Vietjet and Bamboo Airways have operated charter flights from China to Khanh Hoa after Vietnam reopened its doors to foreign travelers in March last year.
However, the frequency of these flights has fallen in recent times, Thanh said.
Charter flights carrying Chinese tourists to Khanh Hoa will begin to gradually increase from November, while Chinese commercial airlines plan to resume flights to Khanh Hoa in the fourth quarter, said a representative of Cam Ranh International Airport.
Before the pandemic, Khanh Hoa, home to popular beach resort towns Nha Trang and Cam Ranh, used to be a favored tourist destination among Chinese.
In 2019, Khanh Hoa received 2.5 million Chinese arrivals, accounting for half of total Chinese arrivals in the country.
In the first nine months of this year, the province received 1.45 million foreign tourists.
