Hong Kong newspaper South China Morning Post has listed APEC Sculpture Park in the central city of Da Nang among seven new tourist attractions in Southeast Asia.

It said: "Da Nang had few notable attractions beyond its fine beaches. In recent years, however, the city authorities have aimed to fill this gap by creating modern landmarks that double as dazzling social media backdrops."

Earlier this year the city opened the APEC Sculpture Park on the west bank of the Han River on an area of 8,600 square meters and at a cost of VND759 billion (US$33 million).

The building surrounded by green trees features a stage for public events and is topped by a huge, striking roof designed to resemble a flying kite.

City authorities hope the park will be an art performance and display rendezvous for visitors and locals during weekends.

The six other tourist attractions in the list are Benjakitti Forest Park and Thai cave rescue exhibition in Thailand, Saloma Link Bridge in Malaysia, SkyHelix Sentosa in Singapore, Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park in Malaysia, and Baywalk Dolomite Beach in the Philippines.
