Canadian magazine The Travel has included the Con Dao archipelago in its list of "off the beaten island destinations."

"Con Dao includes everything one needs for a tropical vacation," the magazine said.

There were views of the lush and dense jungle, and visitors could rent a motorbike at VND150,000 (US$6.39) a day to explore the island of Con Son, the largest and only inhabited island in the archipelago, hike along Bai Ong Dung or enjoy the waters of Dat Doc Beach, it said.

If you were interested in history, a visit to Con Dao Prison, built by the French colonialists and used through the Vietnam War, was not to be missed.

Nearby, tourists could also stop by Phu Hai, one of the largest and oldest jails in Con Dao.

Situated around 230 kilometers (143 miles) southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, Con Dao is now accessible by air and boat.

In 2019, before Covid struck, the island had received 400,000 tourists.

Siquijor in the Philippines also made it into the list along with The British Virgin Islands and Dominica.
