At the time, I had three job offers with different salaries: VND6 million ($235), VND5 million ($196), and VND3.5 million ($137) per month. Most people would have taken the highest-paying option, but I chose the opposite, I accepted the job that paid VND3.5 million.

My decision was not about money. The lowest-paying job aligned best with my career goals, previous training, and personality. Even when better-paying job offers came later, I stayed at that company for six more years.
There, I had the freedom to work independently and maximize my potential. As long as I delivered results, I had full control over my work. This experience gave me the skills, knowledge, and confidence to start my own business, which I continue to run today.
That's why I believe fresh graduates should not focus solely on high starting salaries. What matters most is gaining skills, building experience, and preparing for long-term career independence.
If your goal is to start your own business, experience matters more than salary or job title. A smaller company with lower pay but greater hands-on opportunities can teach you more than a high-paying corporate job with rigid limitations. In the end, choose what helps you achieve your long-term goals, not just what pays the most.
