How my U70 colleague defies age to stay indispensable

My colleague, who is almost 70, has chosen to continue working past retirement and is now serving as a legal consultant for our company.

Despite his age, he participates in extensive meetings and engages as actively as any younger colleague.

He attends three to four critical meetings weekly, where his advice is invaluable in guiding managerial decisions. His dedication is evident as he arrives 15-20 minutes early to inquire about our well-being, always displaying a blend of simplicity, wit, and intelligence that boosts workplace morale.

On days when meetings span from morning till late afternoon, he remains engaged without showing signs of fatigue, even when it means having meals late.

My peers and I admire how he embodies a meaningful post-retirement life—actively contributing to society, undertaking business trips, participating in long meetings, and engaging with younger generations as if age was no barrier. Beyond work, he continues to enjoy reading, gardening on his balcony, socializing, and spending time with his family.

His example has taught us that retirement can be a vibrant chapter of life where one can remain active, healthy, and youthful. Physical aging is natural, but it doesn’t necessitate a decline in spirit. We've learned that it's possible to live joyfully and purposefully at any age, free from the fear of judgment for embracing a lifestyle akin to that of the younger generation.

From today, let us all be inspired to maintain our health, embrace a youthful outlook, and look forward to a fulfilling life after retirement.
