Vietnamese legendary bodybuilder wins sixth world title

Mach had a higher score than five other competitors to win the 55 kg event for the sixth time. The last times were in 2001, 2009, 2010, 2014 and 2017.

Mach was born in 1976 in the southern province of An Giang, the sixth child in a family of eight children. In 1997, he went to HCMC to find a job and started pursuing a career in bodybuilding.

After 25 years in his career, in addition to six world championships, he has won the Asian championship eight times, with seven consecutive times from 2004 to 2012 (no tournament in 2006) and another time in 2014. He also won SEA Games gold medals every time the 55 kg event is included, since SEA Games 22.

The 14th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship takes place from Nov. 9 to 11 in Wonju, South Korea. The tournament brings together 600 athletes from 45 countries and territories, of which Vietnam have 22 athletes.

In addition to Mach, Vietnam won four more gold and three bronze medals on the first day of the competition.
