Two men in Hanoi and Da Nang were confirmed with Covid-19 Tuesday morning as Vietnam is dealing with a fresh community outbreak.

The Da Nang case, 28, resides in the central town of Hoi An in Quang Nam Province but has come to live and work in neighboring Da Nang since April 29.

He started to show Covid-19 symptoms of fever and fatigue last Sunday and tested positive for the new coronavirus the next day.

The source of transmission has not been determined for this patient, who is now tagged "patient 2982."

The Hanoi case, 26, lives in Bac Tu Liem District.

He was a passenger who sat near two Chinese experts, who had come to work in Vietnam and had later been confirmed to have Covid-19 after returning back to their country, on Vietnam Airlines flight VN160 from Da Nang to Hanoi on April 29.

They were among five Chinese experts who were sent to Nhu Nguyet 2 hotel in northern Yen Bai Province for 14-day centralized quarantine from April 9 to 23. They had their samples taken for coronavirus testing thrice, with all results negative.

After completing their centralized quarantine period, the group came to Trung Bac A Company in the province and continued to have their health monitored for 14 days at another hotel under supervision of local medical staff.

Yet those experts had left their hotel and visited many localities in northern Vietnam from April 23 to 25. On April 28, some of them returned to China through Huu Nghi border gate in Lang Son Province. Four of the five experts have been confirmed positive for the virus by Chinese authorities.

The group had so far infected 14 people, 13 in northern Vinh Phuc Province and one in Hanoi.

For the ongoing community outbreak, Vietnam has also recorded 20 other cases in northern provinces of Ha Nam, Hung Yen, Hanoi and HCMC, counted from April 29.

They are all linked to a Ha Nam man who had returned from Japan on April 7 and tested positive after completing his two-week centralized quarantine in Da Nang on April 21. This man had also failed to quarantine himself for another 14 days at home as required.

By April 29, Vietnam had gone for more than one month without recording any new locally-transmitted of Covid-19.
