Vietnam records eight more imported Covid-19 cases

Eight people, all quarantined upon arrival, were confirmed Vietnam's latest Covid-19 patients Sunday evening, taking the country's active cases to 65.

Patients numbered 1127 - 1131, four men and one woman in the ages of 24-51, are residents of Ho Chi Minh City and the northern provinces of Thai Binh, Hai Duong and Phu Tho.

On October 16, these people arrived at Van Don Airport in northern Quang Ninh Province from Russia on Vietnam Airlines flight VN5062. A day later, they had their samples taken for testing and the results showed they were positive for the novel coronavirus.

The five are being treated at the No. 2 Hospital in Ha Long Town, Quang Ninh.

"Patient 1132" is a seven-month-old boy with Australian citizenship. He came to Vietnam with his mother, who holds Vietnamese nationality and is a resident of southern Tay Ninh Province.

On October 15, the baby arrived at Can Tho Airport from Australia on Bamboo Airways flight QH89 and was quarantined in southern Tien Giang Province.

His test result showed he was positive for the virus on Saturday. The baby is being treated at the Long Dinh field hospital in Tien Giang.

"Patient 1133", 23, and "Patient 1134", 35, are Vietnamese men and monks in Myanmar. They are residents of southern Vinh Long Province and south-central Binh Dinh Province.

On October 15, the two monks arrived at Cam Ranh Airport on Vietjet Air flight VJ2735 and were quarantined in southern Khanh Hoa Province.

A day later, their samples were taken and they were confirmed positive for the coronavirus on Sunday. They are being treated at Cam Ranh’s General Hospital.

The new eight Covid-19 patients increased the national Covid-19 count to 1,134. The Covid-19 death toll remains at 35.

Vietnam has gone 46 days without community transmission of the virus.

The 65 active patients are being treated at 12 medical centers, of these seven tested negative for the first time, four for the second time and 12 for the third time. The total number of people in quarantine is over 13,000.

The world had over 40 million cases of Covid-19 so far, with the death toll of more than one million.
