The Health Ministry confirmed 48,715 new local Covid-19 cases in 61 cities and provinces Monday, pushing the ongoing wave's tally to over 9.78 million.

The three localities with the highest number of new cases were Hanoi with 5,868 cases, northern Yen Bai Province with 2,350 cases, and northern Vinh Phuc Province with 1,408 cases.

Of the day's tally, 34,690 cases were detected in the community.

The Covid-19 death toll in Vietnam rose to 42,645 with the confirmation of 42 deaths Monday.

The Health Ministry also confirmed 55,873 recoveries the same day, bringing the total number of recovered cases so far to 7,843,835.

Over 79.7 million people of Vietnam's 96 million population have been vaccinated with two doses, and more than 50 million have received the third dose.
