Vietnam recorded 40 new local Covid cases Friday noon in six northern localities, raising the latest coronavirus wave's tally to 3,335.

23 cases were recorded in Bac Giang, 13 in Bac Ninh and one each in Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Ha Nam and Hanoi.

All the cases in Bac Giang and Bac Ninh are associated with local coronavirus outbreaks, either in industrial parks or community clusters.

The cases in other localities have made contact with previously confirmed Covid-19 patients.

Vietnam entered its fourth wave of Covid-19 community transmission on April 27 and since then, 3,335 infections have been registered in 31 cities and provinces.

Bac Giang and its neighbor Bac Ninh still lead the nation with the highest number of infections, at 1,701 and 689 respectively, owing to their large-scale industrial parks which employ thousands of workers.
