Vietnam has received another 1,999,530 Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine doses from the U.S. via Covax, bringing the total number of doses from the U.S. to Vietnam to 9.5 million.

Of the doses, 1,209,780 arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on October 7 and 8, while 789,750 doses arrived in Hanoi on October 8 and 13, according to a press release from the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam. More doses would come in the future, it added.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic began, the U.S. has committed more than $26.7 million in Covid-19 assistance to Vietnam, the release said.

Vietnam has vaccinated 39.1 million people with at least one Covid-19 vaccine shot. Around 16.1 million people have been fully vaccinated.

The country aims to secure around 150 million doses to cover at least 70 percent of its population by next year.
