President Vo Van Thuong left Hanoi for the U.K. on Thursday morning to attend the coronation of King Charles III, at the invitation of the Royal Family.

The president's attendance at the coronation ceremony demonstrates the importance Vietnam attaches to the Royal Family as well as the Vietnam-U.K. strategic partnership.

Ambassador to the U.K. Nguyen Hoang Long said this is the second visit to the U.K. by a Vietnamese president in nearly two decades, and it takes place in the context that the bilateral relationship is at its best ever.

The year 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties with meaningful, diverse activities both in Vietnam and the U.K., he added.

The president is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Ambassador Long, Vice Chairwoman of the President Office Phan Thi Kim Oanh, and Assistant to the President Duong Quoc Hung, among others.
