A proposal has been submitted to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to add 27,850 teachers to the education system this year.

The ministries of Home Affairs and Education-Training have proposed the PM allows them to add 27,850 teachers to the system in different localities to "ensure all students have teachers."

Minister Nguyen Kim Son told an online meeting Wednesday that kindergartens and primary schools are those that have the highest demand for more teachers, and that he hopes the PM would approve the proposal to soon tackle the issue.

Once approved, local authorities should quickly organize the recruitment exam to choose quality teachers under Home Affairs surveillance.

The education ministry stated last August that Vietnam lacks more than 94,700 teachers at all levels and that it had asked the Home Affairs Ministry to report the situation to the government.

In most cases, schools that face teacher shortages are in remote and suburban areas.

Depending on the level they teach and the number of years they have been working, teachers in Vietnam are paid from VND3.1 million to VND9.5 million ($136.56-418.50) per month excluding allowances.
