Vietnam recorded 3,298 new local Covid-19 cases Thursday evening, bringing the national coronavirus tally in the new wave to 181,102 cases.

Of the night cases, HCMC recorded 1,537, followed by its neighbors Long An with 526 and Binh Duong with 325 and Dong Nai 248.

The remaining patients were recorded in the southern Dong Thap (82), Can Tho (52), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (46), Ben Tre (36), Binh Phuoc (8), Bac Lieu (1) and Ca Mau (1); the central provinces of Khanh Hoa (96), Binh Thuan (75), Phu Yen (38), Ninh Thuan (32), Gia Lai (24), Dak Lak (23), Quang Ngai (10), Quang Nam (9), Dak Nong (7), Thua Thien Hue (6), Ha Tinh (5), Quang Binh (2) and Thanh Hoa (1).

In northern Vietnam, Hanoi recorded 69 cases, followed by Hai Duong (21), Thai Binh (7), Lao Cai (5), Bac Ninh (2), Bac Giang (2), Hung Yen (1), and Yen Bai (1).

Thursday alone saw 7,239 new local Covid-19 cases in 44 localities. 5,677 cases among them were detected within quarantine zones and locked down areas, and 1,562 cases are being contact traced.

393 new Covid-19 deaths were recorded on Thursday, with 214 cases recorded in HCMC from August 4 to August 5. The total confirmed coronavirus fatality so far is 2,720, including 2,685 in the ongoing wave that started in late April.

Also on Thursday, 3,708 Covid-19 patients were announced recovered, bringing the total number of recovered cases since the start of the pandemic to 58,040.
