Vietnam coronavirus tally in new wave tops 120,000, death toll at 828

Vietnam recorded 4,772 new local Covid-19 cases Thursday night, bringing the national coronavirus tally in the new wave to 124,565.

2,877 of the new cases were recorded in HCMC, while its neighbors Binh Duong recorded 738 cases, Long An 320, Dong Nai 166, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau 133.

Other southern cases recording new cases were Binh Phuoc Province (35), and the Mekong Delta's Dong Thap (142), Can Tho (33), Tra Vinh (18), Hau Giang (5), Ca Mau (4), Kien Giang (3), and Bac Lieu (2).

In the central region, Binh Thuan Province recorded 63 cases, followed by Da Nang (54), followed by Phu Yen (37), Thua Thien Hue (10), Quang Nam (10), Binh Dinh (8), Dak Lak (7), Thanh Hoa (6), Ha Tinh (4), Ninh Thuan (3), Nghe An (3), Lam Dong (2), Dak Nong (2), and Quang Ngai (1).

In the northern region, Hanoi recorded 58 cases, followed by Hai Duong (10), Vinh Phuc (6), Lang Son (5), Phu Tho (4), Ha Giang (2) and Ninh Binh (1).

With the night's tally, Thursday saw 7,593 new local Covid-19 cases, including 4,592 in HCMC, the worst hit locality in the fourth coronavirus wave which struck Vietnam in late April.

Of the day's tally, 6,057 cases were detected in quarantine or locked down areas and 1,536 in the community with unclear sources of transmission.

4,323 Covid-19 patients were announced recovered on Thursday, bringing the total number of recovered cases nationwide to 31,780 since the beginning of the pandemic.

233 people died of Covid-19 between July 19 and July 26, bringing the death toll to 828 in the new wave and 863 since the pandemic broke out.

Over 5.3 million people have received at least one shot of Covid-19 vaccines, with over 496,000 having been fully vaccinated.
