Vietnam coronavirus tally in new wave crosses 1,800

Vietnam recorded 50 more local Covid-19 cases Friday noon in five northern localities, pushing its community tally in the latest wave to 1,836.

45 cases were recorded in epicenter Bac Giang, two in Hung Yen and one each in Hai Duong, Dien Bien and Hanoi.

The cases in Bac Giang are all associated with existing outbreaks in the province's Quang Chau and Van Trung industrial parks.

The two cases in Hung Yen, two women aged 48 and 58; the case in Dien Bien who is a 47-year-old man and the case in Hanoi, a 24-year-old man, are associated with existing coronavirus cases.

The case in Hai Duong is a 33-year-old woman. Authorities are currently conducting contact tracing in the community to figure out her infection sources.

More than three weeks into the latest wave, Vietnam has had 1,836 cases in 30 cities and provinces.
