Vietnam confirms record 2,367 new Covid-19 cases

The Ministry of Health confirmed 603 new coronavirus infections Monday night, pushing the day's tally to an all-time high of 2,367 cases.

Among the night's tally, Ho Chi Minh City, the epicenter of the ongoing fourth coronavirus wave, recorded 341 new cases, followed by Binh Duong (128), Khanh Hoa (31), Tien Giang (26), Phu Yen (17), Da Nang (14), Tra Vinh and Hau Giang (eight each), Quang Ngai (seven), Soc Trang and Bac Ninh (four each), An Giang and Hanoi (three each), Thanh Hoa, Dong Thap, Nam Dinh and Binh Phuoc (two each) and Dak Nong (one).

Most of the cases were found in quarantine camps and areas under lockdown.

In HCMC, 304 cases were detected in quarantine zones and other locked down areas and 37 others are being contact traced.

In the southern province of Binh Duong, 66 cases had contact with Covid-19 patients, 20 returned from coronavirus hotspot HCMC. The remaining cases are being contact traced.

20 cases in Tien Giang Province are close contact cases, three had returned from HCMC and three are being contact traced.

Da Nang has 10 close contact cases and four returned from HCMC.

Provinces of Tra Vinh, Hau Giang, Soc Trang record nine close contact cases and many had come back from HCMC and from provinces of Kien Giang, Long An and Binh Duong.

Dong Thap Province recorded one close contact case and one is being contact traced.

The new cases in provinces of An Giang, Thanh Hoa, Nam Dinh and Dak Nong are those who had returned from HCMC and Dong Nai Province.

All the cases in Hanoi and provinces of Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen, Quang Ngai, Bac Ninh and Binh Phuoc had already been isolated following contact tracing.

Since the new wave of Covid-19 emerged in Vietnam on April 27, 28,638 local infections have been recorded in 58 of its 63 cities and provinces.

HCMC now has the highest number of cases with 14,776.
