Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah agreed to bolster Vietnam and Brunei's comprehensive partnership, as well as economic and commercial cooperation.

In a Saturday meeting at the Istana Nurul Iman palace, both leaders said they would consider cooperation when it comes to aquaculture, as well as seeking opportunities for new fields of cooperation like digital economy and climate change response.

Chinh requested Brunei to provide opportunities for Vietnamese goods to gain access to the country's market, especially rice and other agricultural products that meet Halal standards.

Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah said Brunei always appreciates and wants to develop its cooperation with Vietnam, especially regarding the economy, commerce, investment, education and agriculture.

Chinh said Vietnam would continue to provide opportunities for Bruneian firms to invest and do business in Vietnam.

Both leaders reaffirmed the importance of peace, stability, safety, security and maritime freedom in the South China Sea, which Vietnam calls the East Sea, as well as maintaining unity and mutual stance within ASEAN regarding issues at the waterway.

The leaders then witnessed the signing and exchange of the Action Plan on the implementation of Vietnam-Brunei comprehensive partnership for the 2023-2027 period and a diplomatic note on visa waiver for diplomatic and official passport holders between Vietnam and Brunei.

Vietnam and Brunei's bilateral trade turnover reached around $726 million in 2022, a 134% increase from 2021. As of December last year, Brunei was ranked 26th among 141 countries and territories investing into Vietnam, with 157 projects and a total registered capital at $971 million.
