An 18-year-old woman returning from the U.S. was confirmed Wednesday as Vietnam's latest Covid-19 case.

"Patient 1069" lives in Thu Dau Mot Town in the southern province of Binh Duong. She returned September 20 on Vietnam Airlines flight VN0002 and was quarantined in the northern province of Hung Yen.

She tested positive twice for the novel coronavirus on Monday and Tuesday and is being treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi.

The case brings the national Covid-19 tally to 1,069 with 991 recoveries and 35 deaths.

Also Wednesday, 11 people were discharged including the last patient of Covid-19 epicenter Da Nang.

Vietnam has gone 20 straight days without community transmission of the novel coronavirus and has no critical case now. HCMC has recorded no new community case for nearly two months, while Hanoi has been free of new infections for 35 days.

The Health Ministry has advised people, especially those in big cities, to continue wearing masks and keeping their distance because the risk of contagion remains.

The Covid-19 pandemic has claimed nearly 970,000 lives globally.
