A fire broke out at a two-floor HCMC house in a Tan Binh District alley on Tuesday, killing two men inside.

The fire engulfed the 40 sq.m-house on Le Van Sy Street late Tuesday night.

There were six people inside the house, including an elderly woman, two children, and three middle-age men.

Many people in the neighborhood rushed to stop the fire with portable extinguishers, to no avail.

The house stored many plastic bags and stocks of paper, so the fire grew fiercely after just a few minutes.

Many fire trucks and dozens of soldiers were dispatched to the scene.

One group used water hoses to douse the fire from the front, while another group used ladders to approach the fire from neighboring houses.

As the house was situated in a crowded residential area at the end of a narrow alley, rescue workers encountered many difficulties.

Once the fire was under control, police broke down the door to find two men dead inside.

Another housefire in the city's District 4 on Tuesday morning killed an 8-year-old girl who was stuck on the second floor, while 10 other people in the family managed to escape.
