The incident happened around 9 p.m. on Thursday along Binh Than Street in Dai Phuc Ward, Bac Ninh City. Witnesses said the officer was speeding in a four-seater car when he slammed into a motorbike carrying two women, who were thrown onto the road and dragged under the car for over five meters.
Instead of stopping, the car continued forward, plowing into nine motorbikes parked outside a local restaurant before finally crashing into an electric pole and the rear of a pickup truck.
Photos from the scene show the women lying motionless before being rushed to Bac Ninh General Hospital. Within a 50-meter stretch, motorbikes and electric bicycles were toppled and badly damaged. The car's front end was crushed with airbags deployed, while the pickup truck's rear was dented.
Residents said the driver, who remained in the vehicle wearing his police uniform, smelled strongly of alcohol and showed signs of intoxication.
