Local people took six people out of the truck and sent them to Phu Yen General Hospital but one died en route to the hospital.

Firefighters arrived later and rescued three others stuck inside the truck's cabin but all three of them had died.

The driver was among the dead.

Doctor Tran Anh Dung at Phu Yen General Hospital said of the five people admitted to the hospital, one is in life-threatening conditions.

Police said the truck was overloaded and the crash occurred at a sharp turn of the road, when the brake was likely broken.

Provincial Road DT643 runs 30 kilometers long and is normally used by truck drivers to transport goods and farm products.

It has been degraded, posing threats to drivers.
