The collisions badly damaged the taxi cab, left its driver severely injured and caused a 10-km tailback on Truong Luong-My Thuan Expressway in Tien Giang Province.

The taxi was driving from HCMC at around 5 a.m. when it slammed into a truck stopping at an emergency spot along the expressway, before the second truck hit the taxi from behind, investigation found.

Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway runs 51 km and spans 16 meters with four lanes and no emergency lane. There are only certain spots for emergency stops.

As the only expressway connecting HCMC and the Mekong Delta, it serves 22,000-23,000 vehicles every day. Around 100 collisions have been recorded on the expressway the past year.
