Boy fined for driving motorbike with legs on handlebar

Police in Quang Tri Province have fined an 11th grade student VND4 million (US$150) for riding a motorbike on the streets with his feet on the handlebar.

The police penalized him for endangering public safety after a video of him doing the stunt surfaced online.

At around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday the unidentified boy, in his school uniform and with a backpack, is seen driving the motorbike in Gio Linh District in a car dash cam video.

He suddenly props his legs up on the handlebar, takes his hands off it and continues to ride.

The video of a male student driving a motorbike with his legs in Quang Tri Province is posted online.

The police summoned him on Thursday, fined him VND500,000 (US$21.31) for underage driving, and VND3.5 million for driving the vehicle with his legs, posing danger for others on the street.

His mother, the owner of the vehicle, was fined VND1.4 million for allowing an underage person to ride it.

Only people aged 18 years can drive motorbikes of 50 cc capacity and above.

The 17-year-old was riding a 50 cc vehicle.
