Accident causes 5-kilometer traffic jam on southern expressway

E truck rear-ended a car and dragged it for 20 meters on the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway Saturday afternoon, causing a huge traffic jam.

At around 3 p.m. the truck, which was heading towards HCMC, hit the sedan, but did not cause any injuries.

The front of the truck and one side of the car were extensively damaged.

The accident blocked one lane of the expressway during what was rush hour and caused a five-kilometer backup of vehicles, which only had one remaining lane and had to use the emergency lane.

A rescue team arrived at the scene to remove the two vehicles. The traffic jam was cleared after about two hours.

The four-lane HCMC - Trung Luong Expressway is 62-km long and allows vehicles a maximum speed of 100 kph. But as the only expressway connecting HCMC and the Mekong Delta, the road receives a large number of vehicles and is often prone to traffic jams and accidents.
