56 killed in traffic accidents during New Year holidays

There were 155 traffic accidents during the three-day New Year holiday, 152 of them on roads, in which 56 people were killed and 131 others were injured.

The Traffic Police Department said compared to 2023, also a three-day holiday, the number of accidents increased by 72 and the number of deaths and injuries by six and 80.

Of the casualties, 54 deaths and 130 injuries occurred on roads, and the rest on the railroad.

During the three days of holidays starting last Saturday, the traffic police across the country hauled up more than 25,500 people for violations and fined them more than VND58 billion (US$2.38 million). They also impounded 320 cars and 9,500 motorcycles, and revoked the driving licenses of more than 5,200 people.

Drunk driving accounted for 7,500 cases and speeding for more than 5,100.
