The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Information and Communications said it had cooperated with its counterparts in the northern province of Bac Giang to fine TikTok personality Nhat Hai Biet Tuot for posting a clip with discriminatory content, Tuoi Tre reported.
As such, the information department in Bac Giang fined Nguyen Nhat Hai, who owns the Nhat Hai Biet Tuot TikTok account, VND7.5 million ($300.23) for posting false and fabricated information that damaged the reputation of organizations and individuals.
Previously on March 14, a video clip titled "Giat Bim Bim O Sai Gon" (Snatching Snacks in Saigon) went viral on TikTok. The video showed footage of a group of people robbing a convenience store in Binh Thanh District in an incident the police have so far allegedly failed to verify.
The TikToker then said people in HCMC "have drinking parties every day," and that crimes happen in the city as "people only take care of themselves in Saigon."
The video clip has been deleted after garnering high numbers of likes and comments. The "Nhat Hai Biet Tuot" channel has around 900,000 followers and 30.5 million likes.
