Steel coil crushes truck cabin in southern Vietnam

An improperly attached steel coil being transported on a tractor-trailer rolled over and crushed the truck's cabin in Dong Nai Province when the vehicle stopped suddenly last week.

The trailer’s driver braked hard at a red light as the vehicle sped along National Highway 51 in the southern province last Friday, security camera footage showed.

The trailer was carrying three steel coils and the coil lying closest to the cabin slid out of position because the chain securing it was not large enough.

The coil then rolled onto the truck cabin and crushed it.

Amazingly, no one was hurt in the accident, including the truck driver.

Steel coils falling off trucks is not a rare occurrence in Vietnam as there are no mandatory requirements related to the securing of coils during transport.

Drivers often come up with their own ways to attach coils based on discussions with each other and their own experiences.

A steel coil rolls over and crushed the truck cabin in Dong Nai Province, January 6, 2023, as captured by security camera.
