Singapore allows online declaration for $15,000 cash transit

All visitors entering or leaving Singapore with more than S$20,000 (US$14,700) in cash will be allowed to make online declarations starting from May 13, instead of the current hard copy declaration forms.

The move is expected to make the declaration process easier and more convenient, The Straits Times reported, citing a source from the Singapore police.

Currently, those carrying more than S$20,000 cash and bearable negotiable instruments are required to submit their declarations in hard copy.

The new online declaration form will be available on the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority’s website or the MyICA mobile app from May 10, according to Channel News Asia.

Travelers need to submit their form three days before their arrival or departure from Singapore, ensuring they the declaration is completely filed and reviewed before the visitors arrive at the island city state's checkpoints.

Under Singapore's law, those failing to make declaration of the cash and bearable negotiable instruments can be jailed for up to three years and face a fine up to S$50,000, or both.
