Five homes and two incomplete buildings collapsed early Sunday due to rain in the northern province of Bac Ninh, forcing residents to evacuate.

The collapse happened at around 2 a.m. on a dike of the Cau River. Five houses and two buildings which were being constructed fell on each other and some parts slipped into the river.

27 people from five families living in the houses were evacuated to public facilities nearby and will remain there until at least April 15. They will be moved to a long-term evacuation place afterward, said Tong Quang Thanh, chairman of Van An Ward's People's Committee.

The ward has sent people to oversee the site 24/7 in case there are further issues and has ordered boats to refrain from the area.

This is the second collapse along the Cau River in a month. On March 14, a 100-square meter house plunged into the river, forcing seven families nearby to evacuate.

The 25-meter area between the two collapses is now considered life-threatening to residents, according to ward authorities.
