A man from Hanoi was confirmed dead after falling tens of meters while participating in a paragliding tournament in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum.

When the 39-year-old male pilot was about to land on Saturday, a technical problem occurred and the parachute suddenly twisted, leaving him to fall freely at a height of more than 20 meters.

The organizing committee rushed to rescue him but could not make it in time.

The victim was taken to the emergency room at a local hospital.

According to the hospital, the pilot suffered brain and chest injuries, a broken pelvis and lost a lot of blood. He was confirmed dead on Sunday.

The paragliding tournament was held on March 22-24 as part of the Culture Tourism Week activities of the province.

This is the third time the locality has held the tournament, attracting over 120 athletes to participate, of which around 40 were from Japan, China and South Korea.
