The embassy said it was cooperating with local authorities to verify information and the identity of the deceased Vietnamese citizen.
It has also requested South Korean authorities to investigate the cause of the incident and performing necessary citizen protection measures to protect the rights and interests of Vietnamese citizens, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
The consulate department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also cooperating with local authorities to verify the identity of the victim and perform necessary procedures.
The tragedy happened as a huge crowd celebrating Halloween in the popular Itaewon district rushed into an alley Saturday night, Reuters reported, citing emergency officials, adding the death toll could rise.
About 100,000 people had converged in Itaewon that night, as at least 153 people died and dozens more were injured.
Around 200,000, Vietnamese are living in South Korea, accounting for 10.4% of all foreigners in the country, according to 2020 data from the Korea Immigration Service.
