New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will visit Vietnam from November 14 to 17 per an invitation by her Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh, the foreign affairs ministry said Thursday.

Vietnam and New Zealand upgraded their relations to strategic partnership in 2020, and since then have observed numerous advancements, including a bilateral trade turnover reaching $1.3 billion in 2021, a 26.7% increase from 2020.

New Zealand has pledged to provide Vietnam around $16 million worth of ODA from July 2021 to June 2024.

During his visit to New Zealand in September, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son has requested New Zealand to provide opportunities for Vietnamese agricultural products to be exported to New Zealand. He also expressed his wish for New Zealand to continue providing ODA support for Vietnam in fields like sustainable agriculture, climate change response, medicine and innovation.

New Zealand foreign affairs minister Nanaia Mahuta agreed with providing opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to bolster investments in New Zealand in fields like processing, retailing and agriculture.

Both foreign ministers also agree to cooperate and support each other in multilateral organizations and forums, especially the U.N. and ASEAN, while also sharing stances on security, including issues at the South China Sea.
