Residents near Tran Van Thanh monument park in the Mekong Delta province were surprised as they saw a shirtless man stuck in an iron light pole adorned with LED lights. The pole was just wide enough for one person to stand inside.

It is reported that the man was trapped inside the iron cage for several hours. Some tried to guide him to climb out but failed. People eventually decided to call for a rescue team.

A team of firefighters under An Giang Provincial Police was subsequently mobilized to the site. It took them 20 minutes to rescue the men as they cut the iron bars and freed him. The man was taken to the local police station. He was weak after being stuck, although uninjured.

Pham Thanh Hung, head of An Giang’s Cai Dau town police, said the man spoke incoherently and showed signs of mental illness. After receiving healthcare, he was taken to his family’s home in nearby Vinh Trung commune. His relatives confirmed that he suffers from mental illness and often wanders around.
