A 76-year-old man in Da Nang City has died due to severe underlying conditions after testing negative for the novel coronavirus thrice.

"Patient 764" died at Hoa Vang District Medical Center Tuesday night suffering chronic kidney disease, high blood pressure and epidural hematoma, the Health Ministry announced Wednesday.

He was diagnosed with Covid-19 early last month, but since he had thrice tested negative for the virus between Sunday and Tuesday, he was not recorded as a Covid-19 death.

Doctors ascribed his cause of death to septic shock, irreversible multi-organ failure and pneumonia.

This is the third Covid-19 patient to have died after testing negative for the coronavirus multiple times and not counted as a Covid-19 death.

Da Nang hospitals on Wednesday discharged 11 patients, aged 16 to 82, after all had tested negative for the virus.

Vietnam has gone three days without a community transmission as of Tuesday. The national tally is now at 1,044, with 746 recoveries.

A total 34 patients have died, aged 28-93, most of them suffering chronic kidney disease.

Among active infectees, eight are in severe condition, with five on ventilators and two on ECMO. Most severe patients are linked to Da Nang.
