Lightning kills two Hanoi women

At around 7 a.m., the women were on a paddy field in a village in Hoai Duc District when a storm hit. A bolt of lightning struck the paddy field, electrocuting the women on the spot.

A commune official said the paddy field has no tall trees nearby.

Hanoi and other northern Vietnam regions have experienced rain, strong winds, lightning and thunder due to impacts of the monsoon and a tropical convergence zone.

Similar weather conditions should persist for the next two days in the area, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
