Ho Chi Minh City recorded 20 Covid-19 deaths Friday, the lowest toll since mid-July when the outbreak was at its peak.

The numbers had been 21 on Thursday and 25 on Wednesday, Pham Duc Hai, deputy head of the city Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control and Economic Recovery, said at a city government meeting on Friday.

In the fourth wave that began last April, the city has recorded 19,925 deaths out of a total of 506,902 infections.

There are currently more than 5,200 Covid patients in hospital, 1,630 of them with severe symptoms, and 34,720 being treated at home.

It has also found 11 Omicron cases, all imported, and the patients were isolated immediately after they tested positive.

Everyone aged over 18 has been administered two vaccine doses and more than 2.3 million people have also got a third.
