Hanoi has announced an increase in water prices for households, with the first 10 cubic meters to cost VND75,000 (US$3.15), or VND15,000 more than currently.

Deputy director of its Department of Finance, Nguyen Xuan Sang, speaking Thursday at a regular meeting with the media, said the city would start raising the prices of water in 2023 – 24, but did not provide further details except about the first 10 cubic meters.

For businesses, the tariff increase would be around 20%, he said.

The cost of treating and supplying water has increased due to rising wages and electricity prices, he said.

Domestic users currently pay VND5,973 per cubic meter for the first 10 cubic meters per month, and VND15,929 for each unit in excess of 30 cubic meters.
