Hanoi has finalized the design for the Tran Hung Dao Bridge that will straddle Hoan Kiem, Hai Ba Trung and Long Bien districts with curves and a dome-like structure.

The design won first place in a contest held by the Hanoi management board for traffic structure investment projects and the Vietnam Association of Architects in October 2021, Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, chairman of the Hanoi People's Council, said Tuesday.

The main bridge will be 900 meters long. The entire length of the bridge and its accompanying roads that will run through Hoan Kiem, Hai Ba Trung and Long Bien districts will be 5.5 km.

The contest winners said their design blends tradition with modernity.

Outside the dome-like structure that will house six lanes – three in each direction, there will be pedestrian lanes. People can get on and off the bridge using dedicated pedestrian paths.

The VND8.7 trillion ($374.4 million) project is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2025.

The Tran Hung Dao Bridge will stand between the Chuong Duong and the Vinh Tuy bridges. At one end will be an intersection of Tran Hung Dao, Tran Thanh Tong and Le Thanh Tong streets and the other, an intersection with Vu Duc Thuan Street.

In accordance with a plan for the capital city approved by the prime minister, there will be a total of 14 bridges crossing the Red River, double the current number.
