Four Vietnamese kidney patients undergoing frequent dialysis are free of Covid-19 after three weeks of treatment.

Three of them are residents of Da Nang City, a tourism hotpot and a Covid-19 epicenter, and the other lives in neighboring Quang Nam Province. They were tagged patients 476, 481, 483 and 507.

"Patient 481," 65, lives in Quang Nam's Dai Loc District. She has had polycystic kidney disease, an inherited disorder in which clusters of cysts develop primarily within the kidneys, for 20 years. She has had high blood pressure for 10 years, chronic kidney failure for six months and has also suffered heart failure. She was admitted to the Da Nang Hospital on June 15 and tested positive for the novel coronavirus on July 31. She was also sent to the Hue Central Hospital in nearby Thua Thien-Hue Province for Covid-19 treatment and has tested negative three times.

"Patient 476" is a 27-year-old woman from Da Nang's Cam Le District who has undergone dialysis for two years. She was also diagnosed with Covid-19 on July 31 and sent to the Hue Central Hospital. Since August 4, she has tested negative eight times.

"Patient 483" is a 37-year-old woman in Da Nang's Hai Chau District suffering from renal failure who'd gone through the dialysis process for two months. She also got lupus and was admitted to the Da Nang Hospital on July 2.

On July 27, she tested positive for the novel coronavirus and was transferred to the Hue Central Hospital four days later for Covid-19 treatment. Since August 14, she has tested negative for the novel coronavirus three times.

"Patient 507" is a 57-year-old man in Da Nang City who's needed dialysis twice a week for the last two months. On August 1, he was confirmed positive and taken to the Hue Central Hospital. Since August 10, he has tested negative six times.

All the four patients will be further quarantined at the Da Nang Dermatology Hospital for 14 days before continuing treatment for other ailments at the Da Nang Hospital C.

The Da Nang Hospital for Lung Diseases also discharged two Covid-19 patients on Sunday, two women 41 and 67 years old.

Vietnam has recorded 1,016 patients, with 568 of them having recovered. Its death toll is 27. A majority of the Covid-19 fatalities in Vietnam have involved chronic kidney disease patients and others have had other comorbidities, including cancer.
