Vietnam’s fisheries surveillance task force saved a Filipino fisherman stranded in the waters off the central coast Tuesday.

Vietnam Fisheries Resources Surveillance announced Wednesday surveillance vessel KN 464 detected Benjamin Abdulla, 32, on Tuesday evening off Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands, Voice of Vietnam reported.

Abdulla is now in stable condition and being taken care of on the surveillance boat.

He said he was a crew member on the fishing boat FaRola registered in the Philippines.

While fishing near Northeast Cay Island of the Philippines, the boat’s engine broke down at night and strong waves swept him and another Filipino fisherman into the sea.

Authorities had confirmed the other fisherman had been rescued by inhabitants of Northeast Cay within Tuesday night.
