Vietnam will enjoy dry weather and mild temperatures on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, making the holiday suitable for outdoor activities.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting announced that northern Vietnam will see light daytime sunshine and fog at night and early in the morning over the next several days.

But air pollution will unfortunately be at high levels due to thick dust concentration in the air.

U.S. site AccuWeather forecast Hanoi temperatures of around 18-27 degrees Celsius on Sunday, with a drop to 16-25 degrees the next day, the first day of the new year.

Temperatures in high-altitude places like Sa Pa will hover around 10-18 degrees, it predicted.

Mercury levels vary more in the central region, where temperatures ranging from 18-25 degrees in Hue and Quang Binh can be expected during the 2023-2024 transition, with 19-22 degrees forecast in Da Nang, and 28-31 degrees in Phan Thiet and Quy Nhon.

Quang Binh and Quang Ngai will see rain at night and early in the morning.

The southern region will see daytime temperatures of 30-33 degrees, and the Central Highlands 27-30 degrees.

This year has been marked by certain temperature records.

Vietnam recorded its hottest day on May 7, with a temperature of 44.2 degrees in Nghe An Province in north-central Vietnam. The previous day May 6 ranked second when a station in neighboring Thanh Hoa Province measured 44.1 degrees.

Severe heat waves in the first five months dried up rivers in northern Vietnam, forcing major hydropower plants to scale down operations, leading to power shortages.
