Storm Bualoi's impact kills 9 in northern Vietnam

Severe thunderstorms and strong winds linked to Storm Bualoi swept through Ninh Binh Province in northern Vietnam, killing nine people and injuring 18 others, damaging houses, schools, and power poles.

A tornado tore the roof off a home in Phu Binh Village Quy Nhat Commune at around 6 a.m. on Monday, killing four people and injuring two others.

One person died in each of Hai Anh, Hai Thinh, Hong Phong, Gia Hung, Chat Binh communes. Four people were injured in Hai Thinh and were taken to hospital, while school roofs, power poles, and construction materials were blown away or destroyed.

After about seven hours affecting the central provinces of Ha Tinh and Nghe An, the storm’s center approached the Vietnam–Laos border in Nghe An at 8 a.m., bringing winds of 75–88 kph and heavy rain across the north central and Red River Delta regions.

Rainfall has reached 398 mm in Nghe An and 348 mm in Ha Tinh over 24 hours. Many areas suffered widespread power outages and severe disruptions to telecommunications.
