The principal of a high school in Vietnam's Central Highlands is being investigated for taking VND800 million (US$34,117) from the school's parents' fund.

Nguyen Phi Hung, principal of Nguyen Dinh Chieu High School in Dak Nong Province, was taken into custody Monday for investigation into a possible charge of "corruption."

Police said Hung was in charge of managing the parents' fund at the school and that he fraudulently increased several expenses paid by the fund to steal the money.

He also made false reports claiming that he had received less money than he had actually collected from parents.

The principal is accused of stealing VND800 million from the fund between 2019 and 2022.
