A man in South Korea's Gyeonggi Province has confessed to concealing his deceased father's body in a freezer for over a year due to an inheritance dispute, leading to police investigation.

Authorities from the Icheon Police Station in Gyeonggi Province are investigating the suspect for charges related to the destruction, concealment, or possession of a corpse. The man turned himself in last Friday after police found his father's body at his residence, officials stated on Sunday, as reported by The Korea Herald.

According to initial statements, the man said he discovered his father deceased at his home in September last year. The elderly man had been living alone. The suspect admitted delaying reporting his father's death due to concerns over "inheritance issues."

He told authorities he had wrapped his father's body in plastic and stored it in a freezer at his residence, according to Yonhap News Agency.

Earlier this year, relatives had reported the father as missing to the police.

Officials have not provided further details, as the investigation is still ongoing. Investigators have not found any evidence indicating that the suspect was involved in his father's death or tampered with the body.

Police plan to request an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause and time of death.
